For UTVs, there's not a whole lot around the cabin for trail heads for the Michigan side, but can get to Wisconsin trail system pretty easily, can also go north up to Powers, MI and get on the Michigan trail system here –the Phelch grade system. You can ride on county roads in Michigan.

Fishing

There is not a place to fish from shore right from the cabin.  But you can easily go to the park or many different areas along the Menominee River which is nearby.  You can get a daily pass and possibly weekend pass as well. If you go to the park to fish you will want one handy, they do check sometimes. If you are fishing any other inland area you will need one. If fishing on Menominee River – either Michigan or Wisconsin side – I believe you would be fine with Wisconsin as it is boundary waters – I Know when we go with my brother I only use our Wisconsin License on the Menominee River.

Bring your own fishing poles and bait. There are many northern, bass, and panfish in the lakes. You can go onto the Michigan DNR website

and get a day pass fishing license. Kids are pretty cheap for a license even if they are out of state. The park on the other side of the lake - Shakey Lakes County Park. The park is about 4 miles by road or 1 mile across the lake at Shakey Lakes Park – you will pass this on your way to the house. This is the best place for swimming and beach.

Shakey Lakes County Park also has a great swim beach, boat launches, and the snack shack with ice cream. The portion of lake in front of the cabin is weedy and natural setting, especially depending on water levels. It is still absolutely great for wildlife (tons of ducks, geese, eagle, otters, swans, etc..), kayaking,  but not so great for motorized water sports or for swimming. The area around the dock is kept clear. There is a winding channel that does stay clear which does allow you to get to the larger lakes from here to allow you to explore.
